Interweaves That Work
Matching the Intervention to the Block When EMDR Processing Stalls
Guest: Amanda L Marks, LPC, LMHC, CPCS, EMDR Certified, EMDR CIT
Live Training: Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · 1:00 PM Central
On-Demand: Recording available to Mastermind subscribers after the live session.
Every EMDR therapist knows the moment: the processing rate decreases, the client keeps repeating the same association, or the room goes quiet in a way that says the work has halted rather than reached a conclusion. The automatic response is to use an interweave, often the first one that comes to mind.
Here is the difficulty: the interweave that actually restores movement is rarely the cleverest question. It is the one that addresses what is preventing adaptive processing in this client, in this moment. Most of us left training with a handful of memorized scripts and no framework for choosing among them under pressure, which is why so much interweave use runs on habit rather than formulation. Attachment injury, dissociation, shame, nervous system overwhelm, developmental deficits, and protector parts each stall processing in different ways, and each calls for a different response.
This session is about building that framework. Amanda Marks has spent close to two decades working with complex trauma, dissociative disorders, and clients whose processing does not move in straight lines, and she is bringing a working decision sequence to the room: observe what is happening, identify what is blocking the work, and match the intervention to the block. Then we put it to use on real cases.
In this Mastermind, we'll explore:
-
Moving beyond memorized scripts to genuine clinical decision-making, so that choice comes from case conceptualization rather than habit
-
The common reasons processing stops, including attachment injuries, dissociation, shame, nervous system overwhelm, developmental deficits, and protector parts
-
A working sequence for the moment itself: observe, identify the block, match the intervention
-
The categories of advanced interweaves, somatic, attachment, developmental, parts-based, and resource-based, and which kind of block each one meets
-
The interweaves that quietly get in the way: talking too much, stacking questions, rescuing, teaching instead of processing, and over-relying on cognitive interventions

Stop guessing which interweave to reach for.
You left training with scripts. This gives you the reasoning behind them.
Read the stall
Tell attachment injury from dissociation from shame from overwhelm, while it's happening.
Know the categories
Somatic, attachment, developmental, parts-based, resource-based, and which block each one meets.
Use the sequence
Observe, identify, match. A repeatable order of operations for the moment itself.
Drop the habits
Talking too much, stacking questions, rescuing, teaching instead of processing.

One Topic a Month. One Expert. Your Questions.
Basic Training gave you the protocol. It didn't tell you what to do when the protocol stops working. Each month, the EMDR Mastermind Series takes one clinically demanding topic and hands it to a TTI consultant who has worked it, then gives you an hour to think it through with them and ask about what you're seeing in your own caseload.
Less than most clinicians spend on coffee, and unlike coffee, it compounds.

Amanda L Marks
LPC, LMHC, CPCS, EMDR Certified, EMDR CIT
Amanda Marks has been providing psychotherapy to adolescents and adults for close to two decades, with deep experience in eating disorders, anxiety, complex trauma, and dissociative disorders, the presentations where processing rarely moves in straight lines and interweave choice matters most. She has provided clinical supervision and consultation for over a decade in Georgia and is also licensed in Florida, South Carolina, and Vermont.
Her own EMDR path runs through the Trauma Therapist Institute: Basic Training in 2020, EMDR Certification in 2026, and now Consultant-in-Training with TTI. She holds the LPC, LMHC, and CPCS credentials alongside a 500-hour yoga teacher training, a combination that shows up in how seriously she takes the body's role in processing.
Every month, a deep dive into a framework you'll actually use.

Four questions, answered.
Then you can decide.
Am I paying $49 for this one session?
No. This session is included with your EMDR Mastermind Series subscription, and your first month is free. Joining now also gets you next month's session, the full on-demand library, TTI's community, and every session after that for as long as you stay. Cancel anytime.
Do I have to talk, or bring a case?
No. Come curious, not prepared. Ask a question about a client you're stuck on, or stay muted and take notes. Both are normal, and both send you back to your caseload with something usable.
What if I can't make the live session?
Every session is recorded and added to your library, so you can watch on your own schedule. There's no penalty for a busy month and nothing to fall behind on.
Do I need to be certified to attend?
No. You only need to have completed an EMDRIA-approved Basic Training and be seeing clients. The Mastermind Series is open to any EMDR-trained clinician who wants to keep growing, certified or not.
