Practitioner Program

Polyvagal Informed EMDR Practitioner Program

Deepen Your EMDR Practice. Integrate the Science of Safety and the Wisdom of Polyvagal Theory

Trainer: Rebecca Kase
On-Demand: Available with lifetime access for asynchronous learning. This course was recorded on February 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th, 2026.
Every moment of healing begins with safety. When we listen to the body’s cues and respond with compassion, EMDR becomes more than a protocol; it becomes a pathway to regulation, connection, and wholeness.
This program helps you bring the nervous system fully into the room, blending the evidence-based precision of EMDR with the embodied wisdom of Polyvagal Theory so your clients can move from survival to safety, and from safety to true transformation.

Join a community of clinicians learning side by side, sharing real case insights and peer support so you can grow your skills with confidence alongside your peers in meaningful connection.

Practical Skills

What You'll Be Able To Do In Session

  • Assess autonomic state in real time through physical, behavioral, and psychological markers
  • Guide neuroception scans that surface safety and threat cues across internal, external, and relational domains
  • Teach clients to engage the vagal brake, and track its use across sessions
  • Titrate activation through pendulation
  • Apply grounding and orienting micro-interventions throughout reprocessing
  • Build interoceptive accuracy and tolerance for sensation through structured Notice and Name practice
  • Use anchoring statements and orientation cues to maintain dual awareness
  • Choose and time interweaves based on autonomic state and the client's level of ventral access
  • Use working memory taxation to move through over-activation and blocked processing
  • Track autonomic shifts in real time during BLS sets

What You Get

What's Waiting for You Inside This Training

What changes when you bring polyvagal theory into your EMDR work:
Attachement Focused EMDR

Read the nervous system in real time

Track autonomic states as they shift in session, so you know what the body is telling you before the client can put it into words.

Work with the vagal brake

Build and strengthen client safety through targeted interventions that engage the body's natural regulation system.

Expand all 8 phases of EMDR

Layer polyvagal-informed interventions across the full protocol, from history taking through reevaluation.

Stay inside the window of tolerance

Adapt the protocol to what the nervous system can hold, so clients stay engaged without flooding or shutting down.

Conceptualize cases autonomically

Move beyond cognitive and memory-based case formulation to understand what the nervous system is organizing around.

Recognize what's driving the stall

Identify when dorsal shutdown, sympathetic flooding, or mixed states are blocking reprocessing, and respond accordingly.

Pace to the client, not the protocol

Match the speed of the work to the client's regulatory capacity instead of pushing through phases on a fixed timeline.

Work with dysregulation and dissociation

Bring more confidence and clinical precision to the populations that often feel hardest to treat.

Is This For You?

Who Is This Training For

This program is built for licensed clinicians who already work with trauma and want to deepen their nervous system literacy inside the EMDR protocol. It's a strong fit if you are:
  • An EMDR-trained therapist looking to integrate polyvagal theory into your existing practice (EMDRIA-approved Basic Training recommended)
  • Working with clients who have complex trauma, dissociation, or chronic dysregulation, and want a more nuanced way to track and respond to what's happening in the body
  • Seeing cases stall, flood, or shut down, and wanting clinical tools that meet the nervous system where it actually is
  • Drawn to training that gives you both the science and the session-ready application, not one or the other

Free CE Course: Polyvagal Theory for EMDR Therapists: A Neuro-Informed Approach to Healing

You’ve probably noticed it. Some clients simply can’t stay regulated enough to work through EMDR targets. They dissociate, shut down, or flood, and no matter how well you follow the protocol, things stall. The missing piece?Their nervous system isn’t ready, and that changes everything. This free one-hour CE workshop introduces Polyvagal-Informed EMDR (PV-EMDR), a neuro-informed approach that helps you recognize and work with your clients’ physiological state to prepare them for effective memory reprocessing. You’ll walk away understanding how the science of safety and stress (Polyvagal Theory) intersects with Shapiro’s Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, and how to apply this integration directly to your EMDR practice.

Describe at least two core premises of Polyvagal Theory.

  • Analyze the three circuits of the autonomic nervous system, and describe correlated physical and psychological symptoms for each circuit.

  • Explain how the social engagement system is influenced by autonomic defenses.

  • Assess commonalities between Polyvagal Theory and AIP, and describe how to apply these theoretical models to case conceptualization.

  • Describe at least two premises of the social engagement system, and how those premises relate to the client-therapist relationship.

  • List at least two of the four domains of the Preparation Hierarchy, along with corresponding interventions.

  • Apply at least two Polyvagal-inspired interventions to Phase 2 Preparation work to support stabilization and readiness for reprocessing.

  • Analyze the components of the Phase 3 Assessment EMDR protocol through the lens of Polyvagal Theory.

  • List at least two Polyvagal-informed interweaves.

  • Explain how Polyvagal Theory relates to phases 5 & 6 of EMDR reprocessing.

  • Explain the role of Polyvagal Theory in Phase 7 closure, and at least 2 techniques to close an EMDR reprocessing session.
