EMDR Advanced Training

EMDR Refresher Course

Trainer: Crystal Wildes, PsyD, LP
On-Demand: Available with lifetime access for asynchronous learning. This course was recorded on April 2nd and 3rd, 2026.

The EMDR Refresher Course is for clinicians who are already trained in EMDR and want to feel sharper, clearer, and more grounded in the 8‑phase model.

Maybe it’s been a while since basic training, maybe you’ve drifted into “EMDR‑ish” work, or maybe you’re hitting stuck cases that leave you second‑guessing your choices.

This course brings you back to the heart of EMDR and helps you use it more precisely, session by session, so you can sit down with clients knowing what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and how to move the work forward.

Practical Interventions You Will Learn

1. Use three clear techniques for developing an EMDR treatment plan so you’re no longer “winging it” with targets and sequences.

2. Apply the Preparation Hierarchy to reduce confusion and hesitation about when to move into target reprocessing.

3. Clarify the steps and exact order of the Phase 3 assessment protocol so you can stop stumbling over the script.

4. Use concrete strategies to recognize and work through blocked processing instead of getting stuck in endless looping.

5. Implement constricted processing approaches (EMD and EMDr) when full protocol processing is too much for the nervous system

What You'll Learn In This EMDRIA-Approved Advanced Training

You already know the basics. This refresher helps you put them back together in a way that actually works in the room.

In this training, you’ll:

  • Reconnect with the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and at least three core principles that guide case conceptualization and treatment planning.
  • List and use three techniques for building an EMDR treatment plan that follows the three‑pronged protocol (past, present, future).
  • Review all 8 phases of EMDR therapy and name at least one clear objective for each phase, so you know the “job” you’re doing at every step.
  • Clarify the steps and order of the Phase 3 assessment protocol and analyze how good Phase 3 work sets up smoother reprocessing.
  • Identify at least three indicators of client readiness to move into Phase 4 target reprocessing, so you can make that call with more confidence.
  • Explain and apply the steps of Phase 4 desensitization, including how to pace sets and prompt clients without over‑directing.
  • Describe the intention behind interweaves and use at least three types of interweaves when processing is blocked.
  • Define constricted processing, identify at least two client indicators that it’s appropriate, and implement EMD/EMDr techniques when full standard protocol is not clinically indicated.

You’ll walk away with a clearer mental map of EMDR, updated language for talking through it with clients, and specific tools you can use in your very next EMDR session.

Who Is This Training For?

This course is designed for EMDR‑trained clinicians who:

  • Have completed an EMDRIA‑approved Basic Training and feel rusty, unsure, or out of practice.
  • Want a solid review of the 8 phases, the AIP model, and EMDR treatment planning without sitting through basic training all over again
  • Are running into blocked processing, looping, or clients who don’t seem to shift, and want more options that still honor the EMDR frame.
  • Learned EMDR years ago and now want to align their work with current best practices and clearer, more nervous‑system‑aware language.
  • Are working toward EMDR Certification and need a practical clinical refresh as part of their advanced EMDR training hours.

If you’re an EMDR therapist who wants to get back to clean, confident EMDR, this refresher is for you.
