TTI's Consultant Training Program is the structured, mentor-supported path to the EMDRIA-Approved Consultant credential. Built around the 2026 EMDRIA standards. Includes the consultees, the curriculum, the hours, and the community most CITs spend years trying to assemble on their own.
EMDRIA-Approved Consultants 20 Consultation Hours Built In Built on 2026 Standards

Where Consultant Training Fits

Certified, Consultant-in-Training, Approved Consultant. Here's the Path.

You've already moved through Basic Training and Certification. Here's where the Consultant credential sits and what it actually unlocks.

Step 1

EMDRIA-Certified Therapist

You've completed Basic Training plus 20 consultation hours, 50 client EMDR sessions, and 12 EMDR-related CE credits. You hold the credential and you've been certified for at least two years.

You Are Here

Step 2

Consultant-in-Training (CIT)

You want to take your EMDR skills to the next level and become an expert in the field. You're looking for a clear path forward, structured support, and the credential that opens the door to consulting, training, and leadership in the EMDR community.

Step 3

EMDRIA-Approved Consultant

You've completed the CIT process, submitted your application, and earned the credential. You can now provide consultation to therapists pursuing certification, train CITs of your own, and step into a leadership role across the EMDR community.

The Consultant credential is where EMDR moves from a clinical practice to a teaching one.

The Real ROI

Why Pursue the Approved Consultant Credential

You're already a strong EMDR therapist. Here's what consultant status actually adds to your practice and your career.

A Real Revenue Stream

Approved Consultants typically charge $75 to $160 per hour for individual consultation, plus group rates of around $25 per participant per hour. Even a part-time consultation practice (5 individual consultees monthly + 2 small groups) can add $1,500 to $3,000 in monthly revenue on top of clinical work, at a rate often higher than your clinical rate.

Burnout Protection

Trade some of your client hours for consultation hours. Less emotional load, deeper professional engagement, and a different kind of clinical thinking. Most consultants describe consultation as the work that keeps them in the field longer.

A Built-In Referral Pipeline

The therapists you consult with become a referral network. They send clients your way for cases outside their scope. Other consultants refer when their caseload is full. Consultation grows your visibility in the EMDR community in a way clinical work alone doesn't.

Leadership in the Field

Approved Consultants shape the next generation of EMDR therapists. You influence how clinicians work with complex trauma, how they handle dissociation, how the modality evolves. Few credentials in our field carry that weight.

What Happens After You Apply

A Clear Path from Application to Acceptance

This is a selective program. Here's exactly what you can expect.

1

Apply

Submit your application through the link on this page. We review every application personally.

2

Interview

If your application moves forward, we'll schedule a 60-minute video interview with our team. This is a real conversation, not a screening.

3

Acceptance

After your interview, we'll let you know within one week. If accepted, you'll receive your enrollment package and onboarding next steps.

4

Get Oriented

A 1:1 orientation, a personalized checklist and schedule, and a TTI Approved Consultant matched to your clinical focus and goals.

5

Begin

Start your consultation-of-consultation hours, shadow TTI Basic Training, and begin consulting with the EMDR clinicians we connect you to.

Most CITs complete the program in 12 to 18 months. EMDRIA gives you up to 5 years from your CIT Declaration Form, so the pace is yours.

What Your CIT Year Actually Looks Like

Milestones, Not a Rigid Calendar

2026 Standards Update

Aligned with EMDRIA's New Consultant Standards

EMDRIA published updated Approved Consultant standards in February 2026, the first major revision in years. Our program was built around them.

If you're a current EMDRIA Certified Therapist deciding whether to apply now under the existing standards or wait for the new application, we can help you think it through. Either way, what you'll learn at TTI is built to meet the higher bar EMDRIA is moving toward.

Educational Programming

EMDRIA's new standards require structured training programs for current and aspiring consultants, not self-directed study.

At TTI

Full curriculum, Core Competencies checklist, Consultant Hub, and live mentorship are part of every CIT's experience.

Evaluation Framework

EMDRIA's new standards introduce tools to assess consultant competence and adherence.

At TTI

Our Core Competencies checklist mirrors EMDRIA's framework. You're evaluated continuously, not just at the end.

Supported Resources

EMDRIA's new standards call for ongoing resources to promote consistent practice across the EMDR community.

At TTI

The Consultant Hub gives you scripts, protocols, demonstration videos, articles, and tools you can return to long after you're an Approved Consultant.

Updated Application Requirements

EMDRIA is rolling out a new application process aligned with the updated standards.

At TTI

Whether you apply under the current standards or wait for the new application, our program prepares you for both. We'll help you decide which path fits your situation.

What I enjoyed most was connecting with consultants from different specialties and learning from their diverse experiences. Shadowing a group consultation was especially helpful because it let me observe the dynamics and collaboration in real time. The program was thoughtfully and intentionally designed, from the Basic Training videos to working with consultees.

The Honest Self-Assessment

Who Becomes a Great Consultant

We're not just looking for credentials. We're looking for clinicians who bring both skill and heart to the role. Read through the list below. If most of these resonate, you'll thrive in our program.

  • You're an EMDRIA Certified Therapist (or you'll be one before applying), with at least two years of certified practice.
  • You're clinically grounded in trauma work and confident in your EMDR protocol fidelity.
  • You're drawn to mentorship. The idea of guiding other clinicians excites you, not drains you.
  • You bring a shame-free presence to the work. You can hold space for vulnerability and meet other clinicians where they are.
  • You're professional, prepared, and clear in your communication. You honor commitments and follow through.
  • You're ready to commit 12 to 24 months to becoming an Approved Consultant, at a pace that fits your practice.

Common Questions

EMDR Consultant Training at TTI: What to Know

Who is eligible to apply?
You're eligible to apply if you're an EMDRIA Certified Therapist (or will be by the time you submit your CIT Declaration Form) with at least two years of certified practice. We also look for clinical depth, mentorship orientation, and the relational qualities described in our self-assessment section above.
How long does the program take?
Most CITs complete the program in 12 to 18 months. EMDRIA gives you up to 5 years from your CIT Declaration Form to complete the requirements, so the pace is yours. We help you build a timeline that fits your practice.
How are CITs matched with their TTI Approved Consultant?
After acceptance, our team pairs you with a TTI Approved Consultant based on your clinical focus, learning style, and goals. If you have a preferred consultant on TTI faculty, you can request them. Requests aren't guaranteed but we accommodate when possible.
How does enrollment work? Is there a cohort?
We accept applications on a rolling basis. Once accepted, you can begin onboarding right away. There's no fixed start date you have to wait for.
What are the new EMDRIA standards and how do they affect me?
EMDRIA published updated Approved Consultant standards in February 2026 covering structured educational programming, evaluation framework, supported resources, and updated application requirements. If you're already a CIT, you can choose to apply under the existing standards (within your 5-year window) or wait for the new application later in 2026. We help you decide which path makes sense, and our program prepares you for either.
Where do my consultees come from?
We provide them. As a TTI CIT, you're connected to a dedicated group of EMDR Basic Training therapists who need consultation. Most CIT programs leave you to find your own consultees through cold outreach. We don't.
What does "consultation-of-consultation" mean?
It's the consultation you receive from your TTI Approved Consultant about your work as a CIT. Think of it as supervision for your developing consultant skills. EMDRIA requires 20 hours of it. We include all 20 in your enrollment.
Can I keep my full clinical caseload while I'm a CIT?
Yes. Most CITs continue clinical work throughout the program. Many start swapping a few clinical hours for consultation hours partway through, especially as their consultation practice grows.
How much can I earn as an Approved Consultant?
Approved Consultants typically charge $75 to $160 per hour for individual consultation. Group consultation rates vary, often around $25 per participant per hour. A part-time consultation practice can add $1,500 to $3,000 per month in revenue on top of your clinical work. Rates depend on your location, specialty, and experience.
I'm not sure if I'm ready to apply. What should I do?
Download our free guide ("The Top 5 Barriers to Becoming an EMDR Consultant") at the bottom of this page. Or get in touch and we'll help you think it through.
