Practical Skills

Why Integrate EMDR & IFS?

In today’s therapy room, you’re not just treating trauma. You’re navigating protective parts, dissociation, shame, fragmentation, and complex histories that don’t respond to standard interventions. Clients are confronting long-standing wounds and looking to you for relief, resilience, and real transformation.

Even the most experienced EMDR therapists can feel unsure about how to safely and effectively integrate additional modalities into the 8-phase model, especially one as powerful and nuanced as Internal Family Systems (IFS).

That’s where this program comes in.

The EMDR & IFS Practioner Program bridges the gap between two science-backed, transformational approaches to trauma healing. You won’t just learn theory. You’ll gain practical, hands-on skills for weaving IFS principles into every phase of EMDR therapy with clarity, confidence, and clinical integrity.

With expert guidance, real-world demos, and a step-by-step integration roadmap, you’ll learn how to:

  • Work with protectors and exiles while staying grounded in EMDR structure
  • Prevent blocks and looping through attuned parts work
  • Enhance safety, containment, and client empowerment
  • Expand your skill set without abandoning fidelity

IFS and EMDR don’t compete. They complement each other.
When integrated skillfully, they unlock powerful healing pathways that neither model can fully access alone.

"This program changed the way I practice. I finally feel confident weaving together EMDR and IFS - and my clients are going deeper, faster. The mentorship and community made all the difference.”
- Leah M., LCSW

Elyza Bertuzzi

Elyza Bertuzzi

EMDR Basic Training Facilitator In Training + Consultant in Training (CIT)

LMHC, RYT

I believe that true healing begins when we connect the wisdom of the mind with the wisdom of the body. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) working in private practice in Auburn, MA. My primary focus is supporting teens and adults navigating complex trauma and anxiety. I bring a multi-faceted approach to my work, utilizing a blend of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), IFS/Parts Work, and Brainspotting. I offer both hourly and intensive sessions designed to create profound, lasting healing. My training style is deeply collaborative, trauma-informed, and compassionate. I guide my clients and trainees toward self-discovery by prioritizing safety, choice, and empowerment. My greatest joy in this work is witnessing the shift—the instant a client realizes they are ready to release whatever they have been holding onto. I am motivated every day by the belief that you already possess everything you need to heal, and I'm honored to be the guide who helps you uncover that inner strength.

Johanna Lopez Mendez

EMDR Basic Training Facilitator In Training

LCSW

I am Johanna. I was born and raised in Venezuela. I graduated college in my home country with a degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I love languages, teaching and learning about people. Despite that, I used to feel that something was missing career wise. So, I decided to go back to school to become a Mental health therapist. I graduated from Denver University with a degree in Social Work. Shortly after, I became trained in EMDR. In addition to EMDR, I am trained in IFS (Level 2) and I am a certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults’ survivors of incest, sexual assault, Intimate Partner Violence, abuse and neglect in childhood, and issues related to force migration and race and ethnicity. Right now, all my clients are adults, and some of them are Spanish speaking. As a consultant, I am curious, collaborative, and structured in my approach. Working with me you can expect to increase your confidence using your EMDR skills, and your knowledge on how to integrate some IFS skills and some somatic skills when doing EMDR. I am known for also making up words sometimes. My brain sometimes gets a bit too creative, which sometimes can bring lots of laughter to our group consultations. Currently, I run EMDR consultation groups in English and Spanish. Last, I have been learning Portugues for the past couple of years. It is always humbling to find myself getting lost in a new language, and at the same time finding new words that allow me to express internal states that perhaps I was not aware of. I hope to be able to one day run consultations groups in Portuguese too.
