Evidence-Based Chronic Pain Treatment Training
Integrating CBT, ACT, and Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)
Your client has seen the specialists. The scans came back clean, or they came back with findings that no procedure has fixed. Somewhere along the way a doctor shrugged, or suggested therapy, and now they are sitting across from you. In pain. Watching to see whether you will take it seriously.
You do. You know their pain is real. What you may not have is a treatment plan for it.
Most of us were never trained in chronic pain. So we reach for what we have: general coping skills, a little mindfulness, a lot of validation. Meanwhile the client's life keeps narrowing. Activities dropped. Work reduced. An identity slowly reorganizing itself around what hurts.
This 6-hour live training with Jennifer Caspari, PhD gives you a working clinical framework for chronic pain. You will learn the three evidence-based psychotherapies for pain (CBT-CP, ACT, and Pain Reprocessing Therapy), practice the core exercises and scripts from each, and leave with a clear way to decide which approach fits the client in front of you.
Jennifer teaches this work as a health psychologist who has delivered it in medical clinics, academic hospitals, and VA settings, and as a clinician living with cerebral palsy who knows this territory from both chairs in the room.

Where Learning Meets Community
Practical Skills
Practical Interventions You'll Learn
- Guide activity pacing and goal setting, helping clients schedule meaningful activities with a written coping-ahead plan for flares
- Use the Catch, Check and Challenge sequence to identify and shift catastrophizing, the primary cognitive driver of pain-related disability
- Lead diaphragmatic breathing and progressive muscle relaxation to lower sympathetic arousal and release the muscle bracing that amplifies pain
- Build pain acceptance with the Three A's (Acknowledge, Allow, Accommodate), so clients spend less energy fighting pain and more energy living around it
- Apply cognitive defusion (the Three N's) and observer-self exercises that help clients unhook from painful thoughts and experience themselves as larger than their pain
- Clarify values through guided visualization, then track daily behavior to tell pain-avoidant activity apart from values-driven activity
- Teach mindful breathing and the STOP skill to interrupt automatic reactivity when pain spikes
- Deliver pain reattribution, using the client's own evidence of shifting or easing pain to reframe symptoms as a misfiring alarm rather than structural damage
- Guide somatic tracking and NABS (Notice, Acknowledge, Befriend, Shift), helping clients meet pain and protective responses with curiosity and safety to break the pain-fear cycle
- Match and combine CBT-CP, ACT, and PRT components based on your assessment of pain type, fear-avoidance, and how worn down your client is from struggling with pain

Is This For You?
Who Is This Training For
- Your caseload already includes chronic pain (back pain, migraines, fibromyalgia, autoimmune conditions, pelvic pain) and you were never trained in how to treat it
- You believe your clients' pain is real and want more to offer them than general coping skills
- You watch clients' lives narrow around pain, with activities dropped, work reduced, and relationships strained, while therapy goals stall
- You want a clear way to decide which approach fits which client instead of running one protocol for everyone
- You work in private practice, integrated care, or medical settings where pain and chronic illness show up constantly
- You treat trauma and keep noticing how often chronic pain and trauma histories arrive together
