Clinical Conversation
Attachment in the Body
Somatic Techniques for Building Safety and Trust in Trauma Therapy
Guest: Chinwé Williams, Ph.D., LPC, CPCS
Some clients can describe their attachment history with real insight and still freeze, brace, or pull away the moment closeness enters the room. Understanding rarely reaches the place where the pattern actually lives, which is the body, and a nervous system that learns early what to expect from connection.
Join Dr. Chinwé Williams for a clinically grounded conversation on working with attachment somatically, where safety and trust are built through the body in real time rather than reasoned into place.
In This Conversation, We Will Explore
- How early attachment patterns surface in the body during a session, in posture, breath, and the small movements toward or away from contact
- Why insight alone rarely shifts these patterns, and what a client's system needs before it can take in safety
- How to read a client's nervous system in real time, so you can tell when closeness registers as safe and when it tips into threat
- Somatic ways to rebuild trust in the room when fear, uncertainty, or old relational cues begin driving disconnection
- Practices that help clients stay present with connection through the body, instead of bracing against it or leaving it
- Where a somatic, attachment-focused approach strengthens the trauma therapist training and clinical instincts you already bring to complex relational work
This is a live, one-hour conversation with real-time chat and Q&A, created for working clinicians who want something they can use this week.
