COURSE DETAILS

This is an experiential course in which students will practice techniques reviewed. Bring your yoga mat, tea, essential oils, and cozy comfort items and plan to receive the interventions as you learn them.

This course begins by exploring the concept of embodiment practices and their deep cultural heritage. We will examine the historical origins of these practices, including their foundations in yogic, Buddhist, and somatic traditions, alongside an analysis of how colonization and misappropriation have influenced their use in modern therapeutic contexts.

We then delve into the integration of embodiment practices within phase-oriented trauma therapy, highlighting opportunities to align these interventions with a phase-based approach. The role of therapeutic presence is emphasized as a cornerstone of effective trauma therapy, providing a foundation for creating a safe and attuned healing environment.

Next, review the role of the vagus nerve in trauma responses and building interoception. Participants will explore interventions designed to stimulate the vagus nerve, enhancing parasympathetic activation and expanding the window of tolerance. These techniques are essential for promoting nervous system regulation and resilience, which are critical for trauma healing.

We will also review the pillars of health—essential components of holistic well-being that are often overlooked in therapeutic settings. This segment focuses on how these pillars support the foundation necessary for successful therapeutic interventions, offering practical strategies to help clients build the stability required for deeper therapeutic work.

Dive into somatic therapy, mindfulness, and breathwork. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of key principles in somatic therapy, accompanied by actionable interventions. This includes:

  • Pendulation and Titration: Techniques to safely regulate and process trauma responses.
  • Somatic Tracking: Methods to enhance clients' interoceptive awareness and engagement.
  • Mindfulness and Therapeutic Presence: Strategies for symptom reduction and fostering positive therapeutic outcomes.
  • Breathwork Exercises: Techniques to promote vagal functioning and autonomic resilience, essential for emotional and physiological regulation.
  • Yoga Informed Exercises: Learn yoga-based interventions suitable for practitioners regardless of formal yoga teacher training. These supportive postures are designed to enhance parasympathetic functioning and support clients connect to interoception and their somatic experience.

By integrating these evidence-based practices, participants will be equipped to support clients in building resilience, expanding their capacity for emotional regulation, and achieving meaningful therapeutic outcomes. This course provides a comprehensive toolkit for integrating embodiment practices into trauma therapy, bridging traditional wisdom with contemporary clinical applications.
