What EMDR Certification Requires (EMDRIA Standards)

To become an EMDR Certified Therapist through EMDR International Association, clinicians must complete:

  • EMDRIA-approved Basic Training
  • 20 hours of consultation
    • Minimum 10 individual
    • Remaining group consultation
  • 12 hours of EMDRIA-approved continuing education
  • At least 50 EMDR sessions with 25 clients
  • 2+ years of professional experience
  • 3 letters of recommendation
    • 1 from an EMDRIA consultant
    • 2 from professional peers
  • Licensed mental health professional (required at time of application)

Eligibility Requirements

To enroll in the TTI Certification Program, clinicians must:

  • Be qualified to practice psychotherapy
  • Have completed (or be completing) an EMDRIA-approved Basic Training
  • Be working toward or hold licensure

Important Notes:

  • Consultation hours for certification begin after Basic Training consultation is completed
  • Full licensure is required to submit certification application (not to begin the process)
